Arctic Boulevard...On the menu you will find game from the northern forests and fells as well as fish and seafood from lakes of Lapland and the Arctic Ocean. Wild berries, herbs and vegetables also play an important role. The beef comes from a nearby Highland cattle ranch and the charcoal grill adds authentic taste to meat and fish. Seasonal ingredients are used, so the menu changes by the season. The restaurant offers different dining areas which can easily be arranged to accommodate various kinds of events. You can choose from 3 different atmospheres: Arctic Boulevard - Arctic Winter Garden - Chef’s Table.
The Story...Almost 90% of the Rovaniemi city surface, including the former city hall, was destroyed in October 1944 during the Second World War. The City needed to be rebuilt and local architect Ferdinand Salokangas was tasked to design the New City Hall for the City of Rovaniemi. The doors of the new functionalist style city hall were first opened in 1949. The creation of the city hall was one of the main projects of Ferdinand Salokanas. The building is protected and a lot of details have been saved and restored over the years. The city council room includes rare Paavo Tynell lighting fixtures and beautiful wood inlay doors.
The City council moved to a new building in 1988 and the old building was left unused. Local Hotel entrepreneur Mikael Gröhn saw the value of the building and converted it into apartments and commercial spaces in 2004. During summer 2013 Mikael Gröhn had an idea to renovate the building again and this time into a modern and high quality boutique hotel. Plans proceeded quickly. The designing assignment of the new hotel was given to leading hotel and restaurant architect in Finland, Mr. Jaakko Puro. All the rooms and areas were to be spacious and designed with personality as well as high quality.
Arctic Light Hotel Love Polar Bears...You will notice that there are some pictures of polar bears on the website, in the brochures and in the rooms. The main reason for this is that they love polar bears and want to raise awareness to the threat of climate change. Polar bears are incredible animals agile with great strength and endurance. Sadly, their natural habitat is under great threat of global warming. Arctic Light Hotel are proud to be a WWF partner company and help the WWF raise awareness about the threat of global warming and the polar bear habitat.
Europe's Cleanest air...Air pollution is a big problem in many parts of the world - it is responsible for an estimated 3.3 million deaths every year. Smoke, and dust can cause long-term health problems like asthma and chronic lung disease. Lapland is known for it’s pure nature but here you will experience the cleanest air in Europe.
